     Shortcuts

Software usually offers you several ways of doing something...

Windows often provides alternative methods,  using the mouse or the keyboard...
If you want to Cut, Copy or Paste something, there are several ways you can do it.

Either use the menu bar at the top of the screen, click on Edit, and you will see Cut    ctrl+X,  Copy   ctrl+C,   Paste   ctrl+V.  What does the "ctrl+X" bit mean?  Well, you can use the keyboard to Cut your selection, by holding down the Control Key (probably labelled Ctrl) and while holding it down pressing the X key.
Similarly, you can Copy your selection by holding the Control Key and pressing C, or Paste your selection by holding down the Control Key and pressing the V key.

Think of X as a pair of scissors which Cut!
Think of C as, errrr, Copy...
Think of V as an upside down "insert" character ^

Lots of menu items have a shortcut keypress associated with them, e.g. your can often Print by using Ctrl+P, or Save using Ctrl+S....
